Daily Double

Comrades, I’m reporting live from the Big City (sorry Boss-town you are second fiddle in this race) getting you the music even after the Mets dropped the home opener. In honor of the Red Sox first win of the season with the bonus of it being over the Evil Empire, I’m about to present to you the first daily double! What? Two featured artists?! This is madness. You must be thinking that you are dreaming or you are getting inceptioned and you are in a dream within a dream. No need to pinch yourself or find your totem because the music is real. The two featured artists are Childish Gambino and Straight No Chaser.

Childish Gambino is a newcomer to the rap scene but you probably know him as Troy from Community or as a writer for 30 Rock. This guy can rap for days with lyrics that are hilarious, witty and extremely sharp. Now if you know me lyrics are an afterthought for me. I hate straight up rap, and I only truly listen to the lyrics from songs by Eminem. The guy is a lyrical genius. Seriously the guy is a master of the English language and could probably school people with P.H.D’s . Everything is intertwined and even the SYLLABLES of each world align with the previous sentence’s corresponding words. Yeah, that’s masterful, and now you can add Childish Gambino to the exclusive list. As a comedy writer he is naturally funny, and his raps have great flow and most of the songs are hilarious. Dude’s got game. My favorite song, The Longest Text Message, he recorded while drunk on Thanksgiving. The guy is the stuff of pure legend. He basically got disrespected by a girl, got smashed, and spits furious fire in his return salvo. He always keeps the lyrics fresh and if you are witty enough to keep up with him you will definitely be rewarded with good music coupled with good comedy. Check out all of his music, the man has the swagger of Kanye and the comedy of, well, Donald Glover(genius).

Second feature is Straight No Chaser, an A capella group. Yeah that’s right I said it, AN A CAPELLA GROUP right in your eye. Seriously these guys don’t use anything but their golden pipes and they produce something magical. Seriously this is just one of the simple things in life that you have to appreciate. I’m not even a fan of a capella, but I have heard my fair share of it and they are hands down the best out there. Their rendition of Under the Bridge was unreal, like so unreal I spun my totem a few times just to check. The Chili Peppers are Hall of Famers, Muhammed Ali combined with Joe Frazier, and Straight No Chase went 12 rounds with them and had the judges furiously counting the score. Their music is so damn smooth and great to listen to. Panties drop so hard they hit some dude in China. Game Over. Under the Bridge, Time of the Season, I’m Yours/Somewhere Out There, and Fix You are just amazing. Sit back and enjoy enjoy boys and girls its your first daily double and it came up aces.

Straight No Chase: Under the Bridge (Above), I’m Yours/Somewhere Out There, Fix You, Don't Stop Believin

PS: Did I give enough credit to Wiz? His album came out on the 29th and it is amazing. A lot of people gave a lot of love to Lupe’s Lazers, but that literally had two good songs and one great song. Rolling Papers has one legendary song and just packs in some great songs. Wiz is truly on his grind out there. Rooftops, When I’m Gone, Wake Up, Cameras.
