Rivalries Galore
The NBA and NHL playoffs are now upon us, and for Boston it's going to be a story of rivalries. Not going to lie to you, I'm a little hesistant to call either the Bruins or the Celtics "favorites" but both teams are definitely expecting to make it out of the first round. On top of the many story lines, interestingly enough the Celts and the B's will be playing their dreaded rivals, the Knicks and the Canadians, in these 3 vs 6 first round matchup. Well, actually, the Bruins will be playing their rivals and the Celtics will be playign a team that somehow thinks we are their rival but have never touched us. In this regard, I'm more excited for the Bruins-Canadians series. I know we've been harping on the Celtics and how poorly they've played without perk, blah, blah, blah...but if the world plans on continuing to function at a semi-normal level, the Celtics will beat the Knicks in 4-5 games. That being said, the Bruins series is intriguing simply because these teams really don't like each other. Like I'm talking just good ole' hate. We've got the Chara dirty hit story, and the fact that the Mounties in Montreal want to arrest him for it. We've got Mark Recchi talking shit, and Montreal players coming back with their own punk remarks. And, on top of all that's gone on this season, we sent these same Canadians home 2 years ago in the playoffs 4-nill; they probably remember it. I really hope we take it to them again, because it'd be a shame to here the Belle Center in Montreal echoing "nananana hey hey hey goodbye" one more time in their feminine french accents. I also like this series because, no matter what, the Bruins will always be the Red Sox underdog-like team, and the Canadians will always exist as the Yankee big bad french-Canadian sell-outs. No matter the seeding, the Bruins will be playing as the rag-tag group of rebels looking to sly an evil empire: just as the Bostonians have been since 1776.
